Ten individuals sentenced of online harassment directed at Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has ruled against ten people for engaging in the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the wife of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced allegations of spreading untruths regarding her sex and sexual orientation, in addition to publishing malicious remarks about the couple's significant age difference.
The court delivered conditional custodial sentences of up to eight months to the defendants. The complete verdict has not yet been published.
A persistent conspiracy theory suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has existed since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This recent ruling in France comes as the Macrons initiating a legal action for defamation in the United States of America against political commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted analogous false narratives about the first lady's biological sex.
Their complaint alleges that Owens ignored any factual proof disproving her claim opting to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has frequently reiterated these assertions on her show and social networks, and in March 2024 stated that she would risk all her credibility on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her now-husband when she worked as an educator at his secondary school.
The couple tied the knot in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
